Ubud

UBUD - Famous as a centre of the arts, Ubud has become a popular village retreat from the heat and bustle of the beach resorts.  Ubud is renowned for its myriad of shops, markets, inns, cafes and restaurants. Nestled in the foothills of Bali's central mountain range, lives are centred around lush rice terraces, and spectacular views down steep sided river gorges.  All offering the visitor another side of Bali that must be experienced.

Mas is best known for its woodcarvings. And Celuk for silver and goldsmiths.

PLACES OF INTEREST

MONKEY FOREST - Close to the centre of Ubud with over 100 monkeys who delight in the daily visitors - hang on to your possessions - they can be 'bag snatchers'!

UBUD ARTS & CRAFTS - Markets and shops abound selling Paintings, Carvings and Sculptures that Ubud has become world renown for.

GOA GAJAH  or the Elephant Caves - The caves dates back to 11th century. They say the monstrous entrance depicts humanity's helplessness in the face of natural danger. In front of the caves are gargoyle nymphs sprouting water from their bellies.

 UbudRafting Ubud has also become the centre for 'soft adventure in Bali with such activities as Hiking, Cycling and of course White Water Rafting on the Ayung River.
