Shanghai

Shanghai was founded during the Sung Dynasty (960-1280) at the entrance to the Yangtze River. The town prospered from foreign trade in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911 AD). After the Opium War, Shanghai was regarded as a paradise for adventurers.

PLACES OF INTEREST

Temple of the Jade Buddha - built in 1882, this is the sanctuary of Zen Buddhism.
The Bund - extending for 1.5 km on the shore of the Huangpu River, the 52 tall buildings over the river provide a captivating view of Shanghai.
Yangpu & Nanpu Bridges - these two bridges are among the longest bridges of the world, both are of the double cable-stayed suspension type with a long span.
Longhua Temple - built during five dynasties, this is the most venerated and largest temple in Shanghai.
