Raffles Area

Raffles Hotel, built in 1887, is one of the world's last great 19th century hotels. The hotel is a favourite retreat of writers and movie stars and home of the Singapore Sling, a celebrated cocktail. Somerset Maugham, Rudyard Kipling, Joseph Conrad and Charlie Chaplin were among its most illustrious guests. Also located in the Raffles area are the Singapore History Museum, CHIJMES and Asian Civilisations Museum.

CHIJMES - formerly a cloistered convent, this gothic building is a national heritage site offering dining, shopping, leisure and entertainment.
Asian Civilisations Museum - highlights important socio-political-economic developments throughout Chinese history, and also houses Chinese furniture, ceramics, jade and works of art.
Singapore History Museum - housed in a neo-classical building dating back to 1887, this museum focuses on exploring and presenting the heritage and nationhood of the people of Singapore.
