Riverside

Life flows at a vigorous pace along the Singapore River. By day, it is alive with commerce as Singapore’s financiers bustle about Raffles Place. By night, visitors may join the flow of pedestrians strolling along picturesque Boat Quay and Clarke Quay.

PLACES OF INTEREST

Boat Quay/Clarke Quay - once traders’ bumboats jostled for space in the Singapore River to unload their cargo. Now bumboats carry tourists rather than cargo. Boat Quay & Clarke Quay, the city’s newest entertainment area. More than 35 bars and restaurants abound on Boat Quay with its biggest appeal being alfresco dining along the river’s edge. Further upstream, Clarke Quay is a paradise for shopping, dining and entertainment.
Parliament House - built in 1827 as a colonial mansion, it is Singapore's oldest government building, and now home to Singapore's parliament.
Raffles' Landing Site - the statue of Sir Stamford Raffles stands on the site where Singapore's founder is believed to have stepped ashore.
Merlion Park - home to the Merlion (half lion, half fish sculpture) which was installed in 1972, and is a national icon.
