Kanchanaburi

The westernmost province of Thailand has not only gained fame for its strikingly beautiful landscapes – characterised by impressive waterfalls and caves, tranquil scenery and verdant national parks – but also for its infamous history. During World War II Asian labourers and allied prisoners of war were forced to build the Burma- Siam Railway through the province. The most famous reminder of this tragedy is the ‘Bridge on the River Kwai’, which was immortalised in books and in the motion picture of the same name. Today you may visit the poignant War Cemeteries and Hellfire Pass.
